This three-day, hands-on workshop explores the fluidity of documentary filmmaking as both a technical craft and an evolving art form. Through theory, discussion, and practice, we’ll dissect how image, sound, and editing can shape perception and meaning—especially in moments of uncertainty.

What to Expect

• Engaging Discussions: Assigned readings (sent before the workshop) will ground us in the history, theory, and experimentation that have shaped documentary film.

• Creative Exploration: We’ll examine real-world techniques in their historical and cultural contexts—open, critical, and collaborative.

• Hands-On Practice: Filming and editing sessions using any camera you have—professional gear, DSLR, or just your phone. Any editing software is welcome. We’re learning principles, not just tools.

• Community & Feedback: We’ll end with a group screening and discussion, exchanging ideas and refining our voices as filmmakers.

Prameswari Mrajabwana is a filmmaker and visual/performance artist based in New York. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Film and Video Production with a specialization in fiction and is currently pursuing a master’s in Integrated Media Arts, focusing on documentary and socially engaged art. Her practice blends experimentation with sentimentality, exploring the intersections of storytelling, performance, and visual expression.
